Insubmissas lágrimas de mulheres: narrativas de resistência e enfrentamento em Conceição Evaristo

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze the narrative construction of black female characters in the work Insubmissas lágrimas de mulheres (Non submissive tears of women), by Conceição Evaristo, from the dialogue with black feminism. The time frame of feminism as a political movement has shown us how black women remained silent throughout part of feminist struggles. From the 1970s onwards, black feminists demand the need for black women to write and theorize about the oppressive relationships to which they are subjected. To support the argument of the writing of resistance and confrontation with the literary system, which silences and makes black female characters invisible, the theoretical approach starts from concepts specific to black feminism as a place of speech, intersectionality. Writing from experience as a key to reading the writing of black women, guides the narratives to the rescue of the orality and the memory of the female characters reached by the violence. The narrator as a narrative category, analyzed based on contemporaneity and the concept of narrative decentralization, approaches African ancestry as a form of resistance. This research led us to Evaristo's narrative as an act of resistance to the silencing imposed on black writers by the literary system and to confront stereotypes of black women and writers.
