Xadrez na infância: a contribuição do jogo de xadrez na educação infantil

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contributions of chess to child development in early childhood education, highlighting its potential as a pedagogical resource. The research is based on the theoretical contributions of Kishimoto, Vygotsky, and Paulo Freire, as well as official documents guiding early childhood education, such as the brazilian national common curriculum base (bncc). Methodologically, it is a qualitative research study, developed through bibliographic research and the application of a pedagogical proposal with pre-kindergarten children. the activities were organized into three classes involving the exploration of the chessboard, the presentation of the pieces through storytelling, and the manipulation of materials in playful activities. the results showed that contact with chess sparked the children's interest, curiosity, and participation, favoring the development of attention, observation, oral language, imagination, social interaction, and autonomy. It was also observed that the use of chess, when adapted to the characteristics of early childhood education, contributes to the construction of meaningful learning through play and interaction. it is concluded that chess can be incorporated into the early childhood education curriculum as a pedagogical tool capable of promoting the integral development of children, in line with the educational principles foreseen by the bncc (national common core curriculum) and with the specificities of childhood.
