As bandas militares e suas contribuições para a formação musical no Brasil: uma revisão bibliográfica

Abstract

This study aimed to document the contributions of military bands to Brazilian musical development, considering historical, educational, cultural, and social aspects. Specific objectives included presenting the origins and historical evolution of these ensembles, highlighting their role as environments for teaching and learning, and identifying their contributions to the training of musicians and the appreciation of Brazilian instrumental music. The research is qualitative and exploratory in nature, based on a literature review involving books, scientific articles, monographs, and other academic documents related to the subject. The results demonstrate that military bands exerted significant influence on the organization of civilian bands, the technical and artistic training of musicians, the dissemination of musical repertoires, and the democratization of access to music across different regions of Brazil. Furthermore, the study highlights their educational role — fostering instrumental skills and values such as discipline, responsibility, and teamwork — as well as their contribution to social inclusion and the preservation of Brazilian musical culture. It is concluded that military bands constitute an important setting for musical and cultural development, playing a significant role in strengthening Brazilian musical identity.
