Percepção da população sobre a importância da arborização nas calçadas das quadras residenciais de Palmas-TO

Abstract

Urban afforestation comprises any and all tree vegetation in a city and understanding how the population visualizes its environment can assist the municipality in the management of afforestation. The objective of this work was to analyze the environmental perception of residents in relation to the urban afforestation of the municipality of Palmas -TO and the importance of native species. Data collection was based on a sample group, composed of 116 randomly chosen residents, through a form, applied online, in which it was intended to determine and classify the opinion of part of the population in relation to the afforestation of the streets where they live, as well as the perception of the entire afforestation of the city. The results showed that most recognize the importance and advantages of the presence of trees in the urban environment, but on the sidewalks of the streets the main problems are linked to the inappropriate use of tree species, conflicts with public equipment, among others. It was also observed that the majority of respondents were not aware of the the Urban Afforestation Plan and the Afforestation Manual that serve to inform and guide the population. It was concluded that community participation through educational programs is indispensable, raising awareness about the need for the preservation and valorization of native species of the region, in which the population is committed to improving the quality of local afforestation.
