Uma história a se contar: banda Santa Cecilia da polícia militar de Arraias - Tocantins

Abstract

This paper presents the activities developed in the final project of the course and at the same time for the PIBIC (Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Scholarship) of the Federal University of Tocantins and was linked to the thematic project Digital Preservation of Sounds and Music of Southeast Tocantins. Theoretically, the work is based on the area of Ethnomusicology, developed through a case study that used documentary research and interviews. The main objective of the investigation was to study the historical trajectory, the musical formation of its members and the social function of the Banda Santa Cecília of the 1st Independent Company of the Military Police of Arraias - TO, with the objective of preserving and safeguarding its culture, its musical memory, its sound and the cultural identity of the people who founded it. The results of the study demonstrate the concern and dismay of the first musicians regarding the preservation of not only the musicological material – scores and arrangements – but also the sound memories, the social function and the way in which the band was configured as one of the possible contexts for studying music outside the spaces of social organizations, specialized schools and conservatories. After the audiovisual treatment of the interviews and some recordings of the band's performances, the material will be sent to compose the digital repository of sounds and music from southern Tocantins, a freely accessible space that will be destined for scientific research and academic productions.
