| metadata.dc.description.resumo: | A presente pesquisa analisa o romance distópico O Conto da Aia (The Handmaid’s Tale - 1985), da escritora canadense Margaret Eleanor Atwood, e busca promover uma reflexão crítica acerca da dominação social exercida sobre o corpo e a sexualidade feminina através da narradora protagonista, Offred. Ela faz parte de um grupo de mulheres aprisionadas para fins reprodutivos conhecidas como Aias (Servas), moradoras de Gilead, um país situado na Nova Inglaterra, região localizada geograficamente na ponta nordeste dos Estados Unidos, compreendendo seis de seus estados. Gilead é uma teonomia totalitária fundamentalista cristã, resultante de um golpe de estado aplicado pelos autointitulados “Filhos de Jacó”. Por isso, num primeiro momento, dá-se a investigação do uso da religião como força de estado sob leis coercitivas e ditatoriais inibidoras do livre arbítrio das mulheres, em seguida, analisa-se o espaço social e pisco-geográfico em que a protagonista está inserida e sua relação com o controle exercido sobre o corpo feminino pela sociedade como forma de dominação. Os interesses e direitos sociais das mulheres ainda são tratados como tabus por parte da sociedade, particularmente no que diz respeito à sua função reprodutiva e sua liberdade sexual. Estudar a sexualidade feminina e seu posto como reprodutora compreende entender de que forma os mecanismos de domínio social exercidos sobre essas mulheres funcionam, sobretudo como o seu comportamento é influenciado e modificado por tais engenhos sociais. Para atingir o objetivo da pesquisa, faz-se necessária uma investigação bibliográfica, qualitativa exploratória e, para tal, utiliza-se apoio teórico em autores como Foucault (1988) e suas colocações sobre biopoder e sexualidade humana, Silvia Federici (2017) e sua análise da transição do feudalismo para o capitalismo sob o ponto de vista feminino, do corpo e da acumulação primitiva, e no conceito de geografia humanista de Yi-Fu Tuan (2015), dentre outros. Por fim, espera-se com este estudo a compreensão da complexidade da representação do papel social das personagens femininas no romance sob escrutínio. |
| Abstract: | The present research analyzes the dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale (1985), by the Canadian writer Margaret Eleanor Atwood. It seeks to promote a reflection on the social domination exercised over the body and female sexuality, through the analysis of the main character and narrator, Offred. She is part of a group of women imprisoned for reproductive purposes, they are known as handmaids, residents of a country called Gilead, located in New England, a region geographically located in the northeastern tip of the United States, which comprises six of its states. Gilead is a Christian fundamentalist totalitarian theonomy, resulting from a coup d’état applied by the self-styled ‘Sons of Jacob’. Therefore, at first, the investigation of the use of religion as a force of State under coercive and dictatorial laws that inhibit women’s free will is carried out, then the social and pisco-geographic space in which the protagonist is located is analyzed, and its relationship with the control exercised over the female body by society as a form of domination. The interests and social rights of women are still treated as taboos by society, particularly with regards to their reproductive role and sexual freedom. Studying female sexuality and their position as reproducers understands how men from their social domains influence social behavior and modified by their social devices. In order to achieve the objective of the research, it is necessary to carry out a bibliographic, qualitative exploratory investigation and for this theoretical support is used authors such as: Foucault (1988) and his views on biopower and human society, Silvia Federici (2017) and her analysis of the transition from feudalism to capitalism from the point of view of women, the body and primitive accumulation, and in the concept of humanist geography of Yi-Fu Tuan (2015), among others. Finally, this study hopes to understand the complexity of representation of the social rule of female characters in the novel under scrutiny. |
