Condições de saúde da população privada de liberdade em Palmas-TO: um estudo transversal

Abstract

This article is a cross-sectional study of a descriptive observational nature, it is an excerpt from a larger study, and its objectives are to evaluate the health conditions of the population deprived of liberty in the Penal Unit of Palmas-TO in the period between 2017 and 2021, to describe the main demographic, social and economic characteristics of this population, present the number of health care provided annually and identify the monitoring of inmates with chronic non-communicable diseases and infectious diseases in the unit. This analysis was carried out using data contained in the records of the CPP health information bank, extracted using a form (attached), and analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. Sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience and the information was organized and tabulated in Excel and presented in table format. Analysis of the sociodemographic profile of the studied population reveals a predominance of young people (n=328; 50.0%), black and brown individuals (n=517; 79.0%), in situations of poverty (n=318; 57, 0%) and with low education (n=355; 53.0%). Among the health care provided, there was a significant increase in the number of dental consultations, a decrease in HIV and DM monitoring, and a variation in leprosy and TB monitoring, showing an increase in the first years and a decrease in 2021. At the end of this study, it is possible to see that dealing with PPL health is complex. This population is found in a vulnerable situation, but in most cases, before being arrested, these people already lived in social vulnerability. In the Palmas penal unit, the health actions carried out have provided positive results in access to healthcare for prisoners and in the monitoring of diseases found, although there is a long way to go in the search for better conditions for these individuals.
