Reminiscências africanas no Tocantins: um estudo a partir da Geografia Cultural.

Abstract

Popular religious festivals mobilize and rescue memories and emotions and recreate something that remained in the collective memory, becoming valuable tools to keep this memory. This article aims to analyze the dance of sucia, congos, taieiras and drums in Catholic festivals as African reminiscences in the state of Tocantins, more specifically, in the ecclesiastical territory of the Diocese of Porto Nacional. This is a bibliographic research that was structured from the field classes of the discipline of cultural geography, in the geography course of the Porto Nacional/UFT campus, and is justified by highlighting the cultural importance of the black population in the state and that it is present in festive and religious events, valuing its African origin. We conclude that, in the state of Tocantins, African memories have not been forgotten at all, but are perpetuated in religious festivals, in a syncretism that provides further research.
