O Serviço de Proteção e Atendimento Integral à Família - PAIF e a proteção social no CRAS Karajá I de Palmas/TO

Abstract

This dissertation aimed to understand Social Work with Families in the Family Protection and Comprehensive Assistance Service – PAIF, in guaranteeing social protection. The integrative literature review supported the theoretical construction of the research. Data collection took place through the techniques of participant observation and focus group interviews. Interviews were carried out with 2 professionals who work at the Karajá I Social Assistance Reference Center in Palmas/Tocantins, and 4 PAIF families from that unit were also interviewed. Carrying out this work made it possible to understand the direction of Social Work with Families and the conditions for its execution. This understanding allowed us to conclude that families have not been emptied of their social functions, and that they still play the role of protector of their members, even without the conditions to do so. Therefore, there is a need to expand debates on the centrality of the family in social protection policies, given family responsibilities and contradictions in terms of guaranteeing social protection.
