O agente penitenciário: entre a formação identitária e o reconhecimento social

Abstract

The present work deals with the identity construction and social recognition of the technicians in social defense, nomenclature used in Tocantins for professionals who work in the penitentiary system and equivalent to that of penitentiary agent. In truth, this career carries a social stigma and has a little positive recognition by the performance of its work. The lack of career uniformity and the stigmatization of the profession affect the construction of his identity. In order to understand the constructed identity and its influence on the self-respect and self-esteem of this professional, the theory of social recognition was used, having as reference the experiences lived by them in the performance of their functions. For the collection of data and information, it was used the qualitative and quantitative methodology, with application of semi-open questionnaire and documentary analysis. Thus, considering that in Tocantins these professionals have a little more than two years of effective practice of the profession, their perceptions about the work were analyzed, as well as the fight of the category at the national level for the creation of the police was problematized criminal Thus, during the course of the study, it was verified that the TDS, although newly installed and still in compliance with the probationary stage, due to experiencing disrespect, already experience an identity that gives them a refused recognition of themselves.
